THEATRE DESIGN AND THEATER COSTUME DESIGN
You will be trained to become an independent designer of theatrical productions in the broadest sense of the word. You will come in contact with an international network of theatre producers, stages and theatrical groups.
The Theatre Design and Theatre Costume Design courses at the Maastricht Theatre Academy closely co-operate with the Maastricht Visual Arts Academy where the joint propaedeutic first year also takes place. The artistic, theoretical and technical subjects and all design projects will be provided by a team of leading international professionals that are in the centre of the theatrical field.

Both Bachelor courses have a number of common subjects such as dramaturgy, art, anatomy and painting. It is possible to combine both courses and to take them consecutively. The Maastricht Academy of Drama and the opera-course of the Maastricht Conservatory together realise joint productions in which the scenery and costume designs are executed by the students. The course does not only focus on Maastricht, but also collaborates with other theatres throughout the country and in Osnabruck, Cologne, Bonn, Düsseldorf, Antwerp and Brussels. This does not only bring practice closer to the student, but also brings the reality of the theatre business and the professionalism of the various workshops into the course.
The Theatre Design and Theatre Costume Design courses are 4 year full time courses.
ADMITION REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum age: 17
- The student has demonstrated an artistic talent during the admittance exam which is evident from: visual ability, working from observation and fantasy, sense of colour, form and material, originality and identity.
- In the possession of: a VWO diploma, a HAVO diploma, a Middenkader diploma or a Specialist course as is meant in the WEB (Level 4). Foreign education, equivalent to the Dutch education, among others Abitur, Gymnasium, Fachoberschule für Gestaltung, Diploma Secundair Onderwijs - 6 years (Belgium). Colloquium doctum.

ADMITTANCE EXAM
The admittance exam will be completed in one day. After the registration the candidate receives an invitation for an admittance exam, which consists out of three parts which determines if you will be admitted. These parts are:
- a portfolio with your own work (not older than 3 years)
- home assignment (research)
- a conversation with the admission committee
- the work that you create during the admittance exam
If you have completed the selection positively, then you will receive a declaration of additional requirements (proof of admission).
